Beer poking, also known as Bierstacheln in German, is a winter tradition that involves heating a metal rod in a fire and then plunging it into a glass of beer. This causes sugars in the beer to caramelize and the foam to become extra frothy. Don’t worry – the beer remains cool and drinkable, its just meant to highlight the rich malt characteristics of the beer. We’ll be poking beers in the taproom Saturday and Sunday after the Skijor competitions let out for the day!
